New Beginnings Geriatric Program at Massac Memorial Hospital (MMH) is once again hosting its annual Antique Angel Tree.
"This tree is similar to other angel trees, except instead of providing toys for children, our Antique Angel Tree focuses on the senior citizens of our community," said Kim Abell, New Beginnings program director. "Members of the community nominate recipients and then people will have the opportunity to 'adopt' or 'sponsor' an angel."
Nominees are currently being taken. The criteria include: must be over the age of 65 and meet one or more of the following -- on a limited income; does not have family close for the holidays; has difficulty with mood and/or anxiety in the winter months and around the holidays; and lives alone in Massac County, not confined to a nursing home or assisted living facility.
People can adopt an Antique Angel by taking an angel from the hospital Christmas tree starting on Monday, Nov. 18 and then begin purchasing gifts for this person from the attached list. Individuals must return the numbered angel and wrapped gifts to New Beginnings no later than Friday, Dec. 6.
"New Beginnings staff will visit each nominee and make certain each recipient gets the wonderful Christmas gifts from their sponsor," added Abell.
All information will be kep confidential, except for the nominee's gender, age, size and gift suggestions.
To submit a nominee, call New Beginnings office at 618-524-7370 by Monday, Nov. 11.
