Mr. and Mrs. Gene Tapley

Gene and Pat Tapley of Karnak will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

The couple exchanged vows on Aug. 14, 1949 at First United Methodist Church in Karnak with Rev. Buck Cummins officiating.

Mrs. Tapley retired from Shawnee Development Council's Central Office in Karnak.

Mr. Tapley owned and operated Tapley's Service Station in Karnak after he returned home from the Korean War.

The couple both loved sports, including golf, and participated in many tournaments in the tri-state area, where they met many friends.

The couple has two children, Scott Tapley and wife Kay of Karnak and Mecca Helm and husband Jeff of Grand Chain. They also have four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
