Who’s not enjoying this week’s weather? Sunny skies and lower humidity with a chance of scattered showers, but usually they don’t transpire.
This being Memorial Day weekend brings the unofficial kickoff to summer. It’s the last full week of May and last full week of school for everyone.
Swimming pools, water parks and drive-ins will be opening this weekend.
I’m still trying to get the list of graduates in our area. If you know of one, send me a text at 270-853-1435. I don’t want to leave anyone out. All graduates, from kindergarten to college, are an accomplishment.
Happy birthday wishes are sent to Lerenda Travis.
Don’t forget this Sunday, May 28, is our annual homecoming at New Hope starting with Sunday school at 10 a.m. Morning services start at 10:50 a.m. with Beth Clanahan will bring our special music. I mentioned her as Anderson last week. Sorry about that Beth, but you were an Anderson when we first met. I can’t wait to hear her. I’ve always loved the Anderson Sisters years ago, and still love to hear any of them sing. Brother Frank will bring our message, then we will all gather at the Family Life Center for potluck dinner and fellowship. Everyone is welcome to join us. I can remember as a teenager eating our potluck in front of the church under the trees with the men bringing out sawhorses and plywood to make tables and eating in the car with best friends Joyce and Vicki. Those were the good ole carefree days.
I’m wishing everyone a great Memorial Day weekend. Drive safely if traveling. Everyone seems to pass you just to get a car ahead anymore.
Remember the reason for this holiday. Remembering those who gave their lives through the years for us. And a time to remember our loved ones we have lost. The last 11 years I have lost at least a dozen I knew very well. It’s hard to imagine.
I have a poem to share with you all entitled:
Our MemoriesBy Lenore Hetrick
If we remember those who are gone
They are here once more, they smile and speak,
So let us give our thoughts to the brave,
In spiritual fellowship, let us speak,
And listen to what they say.
For a soldier who died for his country must know
And if we caught the message it might
So in our memories, let the dead
Recollections of that kind live,
And are like a springtime song.
