Driver arrested, released for driving on suspended license

A Metropolis Police officer observed a blue Hyundai with a defective taillight on 10th and Market streets. A traffic stop was made and a computer check on the driver, Gregory N. Know, 25, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky revealed his driver's license was suspended. Knox was taken to the Metropolis Police Department for processing. He was able to post bond and was released.

Reckless driver arrested for DUI, suspended license

Metropolis Police Department received a call of a reckless driver on Girard Street. Officers checked the area and located the vehicle as it was turning onto Catherine Street. A traffic stop was conducted, and the vehicle stopped in the 1300 block of Girard Street. The sergeant detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver's breath and noted other signs of impairment. The driver, James B. Padgett, 51, of Metropolis, was given a set of field sobriety tests, which he failed. Padgett was arrested for driving under the influence and a computer check revealed his driver's license was suspended. Padgett was lodged at Massac County Detention Center.

Man arrested on warrant

A Metropolis Police sergeant observed John G. Seigart, 60, homeless, walking around the courthouse square. The sergeant was aware Seigart was wanted on a warrant issued by Massac County for criminal trespass to property. Seigart was arrested and lodged at Massac County Detention Center.

October 2

Brookport woman arrested

A Metropolis Police officer stopped a maroon Chevrolet truck on Ferry and Sixth streets. A computer check on the driver, Ashley R. Jenkins, 25, of Brookport, revealed her license had expired over a year ago. Jenkins was arrested. A search of her purse revealed a credit card belonging to another individual. An investigation was initiated. Upon contacting the owner of the credit card, he advised it had been stolen a few days prior, and he suspected Jenkins of taking it. Jenkins was also charged with unlawful possession of the credit card and lodged at Massac County Detention Center.

October 3

Traffic stop leads to arrest

A Metropolis Police officer stopped a silver Mercury on U.S. 45 and Devers Road. The vehicle had an expired registration sticker and defective taillight. A computer check on the driver, Darius M. Hatchett, 22, of Golconda, revealed his driver's license was expired for over a year. He also could not provide proof of insurance. Hatchett was arrested and charged with no valid driver's license and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

October 4

Karnak man arrested on Johnson County warrant

Donnie D. Kindle, 38, of Karnak, was arrested at 12th and Girard Streets on a warrant issued by Johnson County for failure to appear. A search of Kindle revealed a plastic baggie containing meth. Kindle was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Massac County Sheriff's Office and the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
