The Christmas for Kids Toy Drive served 165 children during its annual giveaway on Saturday.

Due to COVID restrictions, this year’s event was held as a drive-thru at First Baptist Church Metropolis. Toys were given away to children up to 15 years old.

The event was coordinated by members of Psi Eta sorority and Metropolis Firefighters Local 3367, which took the toys to recipients vehicles.

While participant numbers for this year’s event were down compared to previous giveaways, coordinators said it was “a very successful event considering the circumstances.” Toys were also given to other organizations in Massac and surrounding counties to further serve needs.

Christmas for Kids Toy Drive committee accepts monetary donations for the event year round through an account at City National Bank.

The Christmas for Kids Toy Drive was begin years ago by the AMVETS organization as a way to give local children in need presents during the holiday.
