Last Friday morning, as the Air Evac medical helicopter prepares to land, Massac County High School sophomore drivers education students get to see first-hand what could happen and what goes on when there is a report of a vehicle accident. In the scenario a teenage driver, who had been drinking, "T-boned" a pickup truck, causing the driver of the truck to die and injuring three of his passengers. Multiple local agencies participated, including Metropolis Police Department, Metropolis Fire Department, Massac County Fire Department, Massac Emergency Medical Services and Brookport Fire Department. Students saw how emergency personnel have to cut through vehicles in order to free individuals who are trapped. The mock drill was coordinated by Massac County and Metropolis Emergency Management agencies.
