During the announcement portion, Mayor Rance Phillips was pleased with the traffic brought into Brookport by the start of the youth basketball league. It certainly helped the business of the River City Coffee Co., which set up in front of the gym.
Phillips also mentioned a donation bucket is set up in city hall for Brody Powell’s monkey bar project. Brody is getting close to his goal.
The sewer project is now open for bids. The paperwork has been completed to start work.
Motions were passed unanimously to sell the 2012 blue Dodge Charger with bids starting at $3,000 and also the 2012 gray Dodge Charger with bids starting at $4,000.
A resolution of participation and support of the governmental law enforcement officers in-service training act was also approved.
City Treasurer Alison Boyt reported $250,315.86 in the general fund and $249,236.93 in the motor fuel fund. The DECO grant for the new maintenance building and city hall repair is almost complete, and the city has been reimbursed $14,000 so far from the Strong Community Grant. Monies for the rest of the demolition completed is waiting for final approval.
City Clerk Lori Klotz reported $74,432.38 in collections for the last month.
Approval for paying bills in the amount of $50,284.41 was granted by the council.
Fire Chief Bill Copley reported eight runs in January so far. He cautions about using space heaters correctly and supervised and to employ smoke alarms. He had also given a program on fire safety to the senior citizens that day.
In the mayor’s comments, Phillips stated the Army Corps of Engineering is scheduled to inspect the flood wall Wednesday, Jan. 18. He stated the flap gate will be reinstalled on the Pell Road levy and that a lot of brush was removed in that area. He does not expect recertification at this point in time.
The fire department was given a tank refill station that is being sold to a buyer. Since the department does not have trained divers, it does not have a use for the equipment.
The old store on the corner of Pell and Unionville roads is to be demolished soon. The commercial building was not eligible for the Strong Community Grant, but the present owner will take it down.
The meeting was adjourned after 45 minutes.
