The Metropolis Rotary Club is currently seeking three host families to open their homes for a youth exchange student for the 2020-21 school year. Each family would host the student for approximately three months with the whole exchange lasting approximately 10 months. This year’s student will be from either Central or South America and should arrive in the United States sometime in August.

The youth exchange student program is a partnership between the Metropolis, Anna and Carterville Rotary Clubs allowing the three clubs to share the costs involved. The Metropolis club has previously hosted a student during the 2014-15 and 217-18 school years.

Host families are a vital part of the cultural exchange. Before the student arrives, the family must participate in training and orientation sessions offered by the club or Rotary district, establish communication with the student and understand the program rules the student will follow.

During the student exchange host families are required to provide a safe environment to form trust, make the student feel as part of the family, provide room and board with their own bed and private study area, keep in close contact with the host club, show supervisory and parental responsibility, encourage community involvement and teach about the local culture.

Interested parties should contact Terry Foster at 618-638-7561 as soon as possible. More information can also be found on the exchange website at https://www.csrye.org/.
