Southern Seven Health Department (S7HD) regrets to report the first death of a resident of the Southern Seven region who tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was a male in his 80’s from Union County.

“It is with much sadness that we must report what we had hoped would not come to our region; the death of the first resident with COVID-19,” said Shawnna Rhine, Community Outreach Coordinator for S7HD, “We at Southern Seven realize what a difficult time this is for the family of the deceased and join them in the mourning of his passing. Our hearts go out to all those suffering from this disease.”

Southern Seven Health Department (S7HD) reports 5 new recovered cases of COVID-19 in the Southern Seven region. One is from Union County, one is from Alexander County, and the remaining three are from Pulaski County. Currently, there are 27 individuals from the Southern Seven region who have recovered since the start of the pandemic in the United States.

Southern Seven confirms 13 new cases of COVID-19 in the Southern Seven region. Twelve individuals are from Union County, with the remaining individual from Massac County. All persons are being isolated.

Union County: One female 30’s, one female 40’s, one female 50’s, two females 90’s, one male 10’s, one male 20’s, one male 30’s, two males 40’s, one male 50’s, one male 80’s.

Massac County: One male 10’s.

Southern Seven Health Department will report on the number of confirmed positive cases as more cases appear. Currently, S7HD is reporting a total of 64 cases and 1 death.

Southern Seven Health Department will not release specific information about individuals with COVID-19 beyond their sex and age range, unless ordered by the court.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Illinois has risen dramatically in the past week. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), in Illinois there were 2,341 new individuals with COVID-19 identified on May 4 bringing the confirmed total in the State to 63,840 individuals, with 2,662 deaths.
