Residents from throughout the area are invited to celebrate the heroes of the Armed Forces by attending Veteran's Day events.
A special service in honor of Veteran's Day will be held on Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park, located on Metropolis Street, next to the Metropolis Public Library.
Local veterans and service organizations will conduct the service, and Pastor John Kiehl of Faith Lutheran Church will speak. The American Heritage Girls and Boys Life Trail will sing the national anthem.
The Legion Motorcycle Riders will also be rolling in for the service. All veterans and the public are invited.
The grounds of the Carnegie Library in Vienna will be the site of a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, coordinated by the Daniel Chapman Daughters of the American Revolution chapter.
The speaker will be Rev. John Yeo.
The public is urged to attend, along with area veterans and their families. Limited seating will be available. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
In case of inclement weather, the event will take place in the community room of the library.
The Paducah American Hero Veterans Day Celebration will begin early on Monday, Nov. 11 with a sunrise service at the riverfront at 6:30 a.m., followed by a breakfast from 7-8:30 a.m. at the Julian Carroll Convention Center for veterans and their friends and family.
At 9 a.m., there will be an awards ceremony at the Schroeder Expo Center, which includes honoring the recipients of the Distinguished Veteran and Patriot Awards. The awards ceremony also will honor the winners of the annual student poster and essay contest organized by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The annual Veterans Day Parade will take place at 11 a.m. with the parade beginning at Dolly McNutt Memorial Plaza and traveling along Sixth Street to the Expo Center.
Events will continue on Nov. 11 with a program throughout the day at the Expo Center, providing middle and high school students as well as the public an opportunity to interact with veterans and view military equipment provided by the 101st Airborne Division.
The day concludes with the American Hero Concert from 6-8 p.m. at the Expo Center featuring the Community Concert Band and the 101st Airborne Sustainment Brigade Army Band.
