VBS to begin on June 17

First Missionary Baptist Church, located on the corner of Seventh and Vienna streets in Metropolis, recently changed the date of its upcoming Vacation Bible School (VBS). It will now be held Monday through Friday, June 17-21 from 5:45-8 p.m. The theme is "World Changers." There will be classes for all ages. Pearl Meadows is the director, and Dr. Orlando McReynolds is the pastor. The public is invited.

Diabetes program scheduled

Massac Memorial Hospital of Metropolis will host a free diabetes support group from 4-5 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month, June 11, in the hospital's boardroom. Attendees will learn how to manage diabetes by understanding basic diabetes information and terminology. The June meeting will include information on foot care and wear. Just Friends to perform

Just Friends will be the featured band at Monday Night Live on June 10 starting at 6:30 p.m. Held at the Metropolis Community Center, located at 900 W. 10th St., Monday Night Live features live bands and dancing. A donation is required in order for this program to continue.

Orienteering to be discussed

Area residents are invited to Cache River Wetlands Center from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday to hear the program, Introduction to Orienteering. The workshop will present basic orienteering concepts to children and adults: how to use a compass, measure distances with paces and traverse an orienteering course. Participants will be provided with the use of a compass and a course map and will practice new-found skills along a course at Cache River Wetlands Center and Egret Slough. Seven Mile to host VBS

Seven Mile Baptist Church, located at 2513 Ill. 145 in Metropolis, will host Vacation Bible School from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14 for children, ages Pre-K to sixth grade. This year's theme is: In the Wild --Amazing Encounters with Jesus. For information, call 618-638-6500.

Massac County Historical Society

Will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Elijah P. Curtis Home, 405 Market St. This meeting was originally scheduled for June 3 but was postponed. Everyone interested in history is invited to attend.

Metropolis Kiwanis Club

Meets each Tuesday at noon at St. Paul Lutheran Church, located on the corner of Sixth and Ferry streets in Metropolis. Visitors are welcome.

Metropolis Rotary Club

Meets at noon each Thursday at Central Hall, located at 1009 North Ave. in Metropolis.

Gamblers Anonymous

Meets every Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 100 E. Fifth St. in Metropolis. Attendees are encouraged to enter from the south side of the church.

Metropolis Lions Club

Will meet at 6 p.m. the second Thursday of each month in the boardroom at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis. For information, call 618-564-2467.
