Benefit to help soldiers kids

The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Father John Fallon Assembly 312 of Paducah, is hosting a fundraiser for the Fort Campbell, Kentucky's Little Soldiers/Holiday House Christmas Program. The funds will be designed to help children of the 101st Airborne to receive gifts for Christmas. Fat Edd's Roadhouse Restaurant, located at 323 Ferry St. in Metropolis, will give a portion of sales on Tuesday, July 16 to the Little Soldiers program. Everyone is encouraged to stop by.

Nature Note Cards featured

Nature Note Cards will be the featured program at the Cache River Wetlands Center, located on Ill. 37 south of Cypress, at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Note cards will be decorated using flowers and other plant parts plus a variety of other items from nature. Each participant will have the opportunity to make two cards with envelopes. This creative project is suitable for both children and adults. For information and to register, call 618-657-2064.

Just Friends to perform

Just Friends will be the featured band at Monday Night Live on July 15 starting at 6:30 p.m. Held at the Metropolis Community Center, located at 900 W. 10th St., Monday Night Live features live bands and dancing. A donation is required in order for this program to continue.

Blood drive set for Monday

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive at Fellowship Baptist Church, located at 890 Senior Ave. in Vienna, from noon until 6 p.m. on Monday, July 15. To make an appointment, call 800-733-2767.

Teen choir to perform Sunday

St. John Church, located on Waldo Church Road near Metropolis, will host Teen Challenge Choir at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 14. Everyone is invited to attend.

Boy Scout paper drive is set

Boy Scout Troop 101 will hold its regular paper drive on Saturday, July 20. Metropolis residents are asked to leave newspapers only bagged or tied in front of their homes by 9 a.m. Magazines will not be collected. The route will also include Fairmount, Airport Road to Country Club Road and North Avenue. The Scouts no longer pick up papers at the Round Knob Store. Joppa residents may leave papers at Joppa City Hall Friday before 2 p.m.

Kangaroo Klub to meet

Baptist Health Paducah will sponsor a Kangaroo Klub for breastfeeding mothers from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 18 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1119 Market St. in Metropolis. The support group is for women who breastfeed or expectant mothers who plan to breastfeed. For more information, call 270-415-4680.

Food, clothing giveaway

Weaver Creek Baptist Church, located on the corner of North Avenue and Upper Salem Church Road in Metropolis, will host a food and clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. today, July 11. Everyone is invited to stop at both events.
