Amos Sommer


Amos A. Sommer, 83, of Metropolis, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019 at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

Born Sept. 8, 1936, Mr. Sommer was a farmer early in his life and retired from the Massac County Sheriff's Office, where he was a jailer.

Survivors include his wife, Irma; one daughter, Lottie Renee Sexton; one son, Michael Sommer; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Terry Hiett and Betty Hiett; one brother, William Sommer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son Frankie Sommer; his parents, Sherman and Rosa Thompson Sommer; his sisters, Waiva and Loreine Burnett and Pauline Warren; and his brothers, Russell, Ralph, Odress Sommer.

Funeral service was held Friday at Miller-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home of Metropolis with Rev. David Siere officiating. Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
