Barbara Ruth Neff Howk, 92, of Tampa, Florida, formerly of Metropolis, passed away on Tuesday, April 9 2019.
Barbara was the daughter of George and Ruth Neff. Born and raised in Metropolis, she pursued a career in the beauty industry as a traveling consultant for Revlon and Estee Lauder.
While working in San Francisco, California, Barbara met and married the love of her life, Bud, and settled down to raise a family.
When Bud retired from the Air Force, they moved to Satellite Beach, Florida, where they made their home for 50 years. Following his death, she moved to Tampa to be near her daughter.
Barbara was a member in good standing with the Order of Eastern Star, Lily of the Valley Chapter 85 in Metropolis.
She was blessed with the "gift of gab" and never met a stranger she could not talk to. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Candy Howk Bennett and husband Karl of Tampa; and her cousins, Mary Ruth George and Brenda George Bryant, formerly of Metropolis, Dr. Tom Kerley and wife Linda of Paducah, Pam Kerley Lee and husband Bobby of Newnan, Georgia; and Karol Ray Neff Feldman and husband Richard of Nashville Tennessee.
She is preceded in death by her husband, retired Col. Bud Howk; and her son, Craig Howk.
A graveside service was held on April 17 at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
