Stephen "Chad" Parker, 46, of Brookport, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019 at his home.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Metropolis First Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Bremer officiating.
Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, located at 6201 Waldo Church Rd. in Metropolis. Pallbearers will be members of the Metropolis Fire Department.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 and from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour Friday, both at the church. A bell ceremony and firefighter walk-thru will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Born June 24, 1973 in Paducah, Mr. Parker was a 1991 graduate of Massac County High School.
Since Aug. 16, 2000, he has worked as a firefighter for the Metropolis Fire Department. At the time of his passing, Mr. Parker had attained the rank of captain. He had also attained his basic firefighter certification and EMT certification.
He was a member of MABAS Division 45 hazardous materials and technical rescue team.
Additionally, Mr. Parker was a State of Illinois certified fire investigator and was preparing to begin further training to attain certification as a State of Illinois arson investigator.
He was a member of Metropolis First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Jamie Koehler Parker; his parents, Stephen and Lynn McCluskey Parker of Metropolis; one son, Caleb Michael Parker and girlfriend Grace Cappock of Louisville, Kentucky; two daughters, Kylie Grace Parker and Chloe Paige Parker, both at home; two brothers, Todd Parker and wife Ashley of Metropolis and Darren Parker and wife Tess of Herrin; his paternal grandmother, Verna Parker of Metropolis; his mother-in-law, Linda Koehler of Vienna; his aunts and uncles, Beverly Hicks and husband Mike, Rosemary Parker, Bruce Parker and wife Kathy and Carolyn Mizell, all of Metropolis, and Karen Luttrell and husband Gene of North Pole, Alaska; his sisters-in-law, Wendi Culkin and husband Bill of Vienna and Kim Blackman and husband Eric of Massac County; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his paternal grandfather, Carlton Parker; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Patricia Steers McCluskey; one uncle, Robert Alan McCluskey; and his father-in-law, Floyd Koehler.
Memorials may be made to establish an educational fund for Chad's daughters and may be left in care of Bailey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 695, Vienna, IL 62995. Checks should be made payable to Jamie Parker.
