Dolores Comer, 87, of Metropolis, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis with her daughter, Michelle, by her side.
Dolores was born on Sept. 28, 1931 to Carl and Floie Stamme. She married her high school sweetheart, Sherman Comer, in 1949 and shared more than 50 years of marriage.
She was a lifelong resident of Metropolis and member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Dolores was well-known for her love of gardening and her talent in arts and crafts. She and Sherman spent their free time "junkin'" and collecting antiques.
Dolores loved spending time with family and with their "card party" group of friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Grace and husband Larry; her son-in-law, Mike Woods; her grandchildren, Miles Woods and wife Des, Marcus Grace and wife Amy, Lucas Grace and wife Sarah and Lyndsay Grace; one brother, Gene Stamme; three sisters-in-law, Margie Sutton and husband Jim, Dora Fenwick and husband Wayne and Marie Comer; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Marcie Woods; and one granddaughter, Mandy Woods Brinker.
A private family service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Dolores' name to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Altar Guild, P.O. Box 816, Metropolis, IL 62960.
Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home of Metropolis was in charge of arrangements.
