Lester J. Meinders, 93, of Metropolis, died Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.

Mr. Meinders was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Massac County He served in the United States Army as a military policeman during World War II. He owned and operated as a Prairie Farms Distributorship for 30-plus years and was a farmer.

Survivors include three sons, Mark Meinders, Randy Meinders and wife Beth and Aaron Meinders and wife Jackie; his stepchildren, James Pratte Jr. and wife Vickie, Michael Pratte and wife Joi, Sheila Graves and husband Harley and Cindy Walker and husband David; his grandchildren, Nathan Meinders, Leslie Hall, Randall Meinders, Amber Bremer and Elizabeth Ellis; his stepgrandchildren, Mikel Bray, David Swegman, Ashley James, Jeremy Meadows, Christopher Meadows, Wes Graves, Stephanie Pratte and James Pratte; one sister, Florence Korte and husband Bill; one brother, Wayne Meinders and wife Mary; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lena Verbarg Meinders; his wife, Jean Meinders; one daughter, Venus Schmidt; and two sisters, Virgie Hausman and Ruby Bakke.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at Miller-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Kent Hollis officiating. Burial followed at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery.
