Mildred Wilson


Mildred Wilson, 93, of Metropolis, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019 at Southgate Nursing and Health Care Center in Metropolis.

Mrs. Wilson was a member of First Baptist Church of Metropolis, where she taught Sunday school and was involved in missions. She traveled twice to Africa to visit her sister in the mission field.

Mrs. Wilson was a graduate of Orlando Senior High School and New Orleans Baptist School of Nursing. She worked at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri and Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

Survivors include her children, Wayne Wilson and wife Janice of New Orleans, Louisiana, Susan Ragland and husband Bill of Paducah, Jim Wilson and wife Diana of Grand Chain and Janet Eck and husband Bill of Highland; seven grandchildren, Doug Gallagher and David Wilson, both of Paducah, Adrienne Giacalone and husband James of Martinez, California, Audrey Lewis and fiancé David Tebbe and Laura Lackey and husband Tim, all of Alhambra, Meredith Blanque and husband Jonathan of New Orleans and Betsy Earnest and husband Stephen of Smyrna, Tennessee; four stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth Neelley and husband Jason of Metropolis, Becky Lairson and husband Daniel of Alhambra, Bill Eck III and wife Ashley of Highland and Dylan Hall of Oswego; eight great-grandchildren, Phoenix Lewis, Jade Klocke, Rocco Giacalone, Drake Giacalone, Daniel Lairson, Bill Eck IV, Isla Blanque and Evie Earnest; one sister, Mary Evelyn Fredenburg of Cadiz, Kentucky; and one brother-in-law, Harry Haynsworth of Athens, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Mary Davies Fredenburg; her spouse, Ellis O. Wilson; one granddaughter, Breanna Wilson; one daughter-in-law, Ronda Wilson; one son-in-law, David Cooper; one brother, David Marshall Fredenburg; and one sister, Carol Haynsworth.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at Miller-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis with Rev. Terry Mathis officiating. Burial followed at Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
