PERRYVILLE, Mo. — Oscar ‘Alan’ Oakes, 91, of Perryville, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at Independence Care Center in Perryville.

He was born January 19, 1929, in Metropolis, Illinois, to Oscar Oakes and Norma May (Wantland) Oakes.

He and Sarah Lee (Watts) were married October 24, 1954. She survives in Perryville.

He served in the US Army.

Alan was retired after 39 years as a Lineman with Ameren — Union Electric Company.

He was a member of United Methodist Church in Perryville, American Legion Post 133 and IBEW Local 1439.

Alan was very active as past Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #619. He loved woodworking and outdoor activities; especially camping, canoeing and sporting firearms.

Alan really enjoyed helping people especially around their homes and with his church.

He loved meeting people and thrived on sharing life experiences.

Survivors include two sons, David A. (Beverly) Oakes of Perryville, and Kurt B. (Laura) Oakes of Sunset Hills; sister, Marjorie Loynes of Brookport, Illinois; brother-in-law, Ted Parker of Woodland Hills, California; six grandchildren, Benjamin (Linnea) Oakes, Christopher (Chelsea) Oakes, Katherine Oakes, Eric (Kristen) Labbe, Melody (Christopher) Plaisance, Grace House; great-grandchild, Tekla Oakes; and five other great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosalee Parker; and brother-in-Law, Ed Loynes.

Visitation will be on Monday, September 21, 2020, from 8:30 — 10:30 a.m. at Perryville United Methodist Church at 314 W. North Street, Perryville.

Funeral Service will be on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 10:30 am at Perryville United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Barron officiating.

Committal Service will take place Monday, September 21, 2020, at 3 p.m. at Metropolis Memorial Gardens, 2736 North Ave., Metropolis, Illinois.

Memorial contributions may be given to Community Outreach Program at Perryville United Methodist Church in Perryville.
