William Konemann

William Truman "W.T." Konemann, 89, of Metropolis, passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020 at his home in rural Massac County.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Emmerson and Assistant Pastor Jeff Trovillion officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church.

Burial will follow with military rites at St. Stephens Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Mr. Konemann served in the National Guard for one year before joining the U.S. Navy as a Seabee, with two tours in Vietnam and one tour in Thailand, serving 20 years. Upon his return home, he went to work for Fruit Belt Farm Service in Metropolis, where he retired after 27 years, then continued to work on his farm.

Mr. Konemann was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church where he served as president and treasurer at various times.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Konemann; two sons, Ronald Konemann (Carolyn) of Metropolis and Gary Konemann of rural Massac County; four sisters, Barbara Johnston, Marian Landis, Shirley Bunting ("Butch") and Jeanette Shreves, all of Metropolis; three brothers, Lowell "Preach" Konemann, Donald "Pat" Konemann (Audrey) and Robert "Bobby" Konemann (Barbara); one sister-in-law, Janice K. Konemann; two grandsons, Matt Konemann of St. Louis, and Jeremy Konemann of Metropolis; two granddaughters, Jennifer Gray and Janet Konemann both of Paducah; two great-granddaughters, Chastin Konemann and Jalyn Rush of Paducah; one great-great-grandson, Travon D. Jones Jr. of Paducah; mother-in-law, Hilda Obermark; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nina (Smith) Konemann; one sister, Margaret English; two brothers, Joe Warren Konemann and Bernard "Bernie" Konemann; two sisters-in-law, Jerlean Konemann and Janice R. Konemann; three brothers-in-law, Lindell Obermark, "Rus" English and Charles Shreves; two nieces, Patty Bailey and Phyllis English; one nephew, Timothy Bunting; one nephew-in-law, Bob Welton; and father-in-law, Orval Obermark.

Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
