For the past 20 years, I have averaged driving to Mound City twice a week to oversee maintenance of the 24 apartments my wife, Carolyn, and I own down there. After the first 10 or so trips, I started looking for something more interesting than the lonely road just ahead of me.

There was always something new to catch my attention. There were birds, groundhogs, lots of deer, trees turning color and, in warm weather, lots of flowers.
