Dear Editor:

We are writing on behalf of the Christmas for Kids Toy Drive committee. Psi Eta branch of Beta Sigma Phi, along with the Metropolis Fire Fighters Union, continue to carry on the community tradition of serving the children in Massac County. This year the toy drive will be on Saturday, Dec. 21.

First we want to express our sincerest gratitude to everyone for their generous outpouring of support the last five years. We were able to serve over 275 children throughout Massac County last year. In order to achieve a successful toy drive we are reaching out to the community businesses, churches and organizations. We are asking for your help in several ways.

1. As you consider your financial giving, especially during the Christmas season, please consider making a monetary donation to the toy drive. Over the past several years, our budget has continued to grow. Last year, our expenses on toys totaled over $5000. This gave each child a larger toy and then several smaller toys as well. We were able to provide toys and other items for children up to 15 years old. This year we continue to ask community organizations to play a large role in supporting this event. An account is available at City National Bank for the toy drive. As a donor, your name will be posted and tagged on our Facebook page -- Christmas For Kids Toy Drive.

2. Place a collection box, jar for donations or both in your establishments. Once the Jar/box is placed in a business, it will be posted on our Facebook page as well as in our advertising that a jar/box is available. Members of the Metropolis City Fire Department will be the only ones picking up jars and boxes.

3. Help us advertise this event in two ways. Please help us spread the word requesting donations of toys and money for the event. Like and Share our Facebook page (Christmas For Kids Toy Drive). Also please help us spread the word to people who will need toys for their children. Be sure to look for our upcoming events and share them on Facebook.

Please feel free to drop off toys and donations at the city fire station.

Thank you for your support.
