The boys were in action this week at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale for the SIRR Conference Tournament.

Benton won by 14 strokes over second place Herrin on the Ohio side, and Nashville was nine strokes better than Anna-Jonesboro [332-341] on the Mississippi side.

West Frankfort shot a 342 for third on the Ohio side and Massac County totaled 352 finishing ahead of Harrisburg [372] and Murphysboro [416].

Sweltering heat and baked, crispy fairways made for some higher than normal numbers as only one golfer broke par. Josh Green from Herrin fired a two under 70 to take medalist honors. Benton's Brad Hammond and Herrin's Logan Baggett were one over at 73. All six of Benton's players finished in the top 10.

Massac was led by Noah Matesevac and Hayden Summers, who both shot 86. Micah Troutt shot a disappointing 88 while JJ Sweatt, who finished up his day on the soccer field back in Metropolis, shot 92.

Brandon Burnett and Isaac Burnett shot 94 and 110 respectively.

Coach Gary Adkins was understandably perplexed by the Patriot scores but said, "We've got five days to figure things out, and we start work tomorrow."
