Members of the 2021 Century baseball team are (from left, kneeling) Landon McClellan, Connor Skaggs, Dalton Reichert, Jeremy McComas, Drake Biggerstaff; (standing) Trevor Wilborn, Lance Smith, Ronnie Corzine, Mason Clark, Tyler Lang, Jake Jones and Breyden Murphy.

Century baseball coach Bob Edwards has a nice core to build on this year with several seniors at key positions. He also has good team speed, and that is always a plus.

Century figures to be “strong up the middle” with Ronnie Corzine behind the plate, Drake Biggerstaff at shortstop and speedy Jeremy McComas patrolling center field. Lance Smith looks to be a workhorse on the mound with Tyler Lang leaving his normal first base position to put in work on the hill, also.

After a couple of fairly easy wins to open the season, Edwards bumped his team up in class a little and took on Massac County High School. The game was well played, and the Centurions were quite competitive and acquitted themselves well.

Edwards obviously believes in “putting the ball in play” on offense and other than a couple of miscues in the outfield, his crew showed themselves to be pretty solid across the board.

With only a 12-man roster, Century will need everyone to stay healthy; but if they do, this crew should win more than its share of games this spring.
