A pair of Massac County gradates continue to play key parts in the success of their team on the softball and baseball diamonds.
Up at Carbondale, sophomore Emma Austin has put up some impressive numbers this year as she has hit around the .375 mark with an on base percentage of around 46%. Austin is third on the team in runs scored and leads the team with 12 stolen bases out of 13 attempts.
Austin hopes to lead the Salukis to a win this Friday, April 21, against Bradley. The Salukis are currently on a six-game slide, but still own an impressive 29-11 overall record and are 10-7 in the MVC. For the record, SIU is unbeaten, 17-0, at home this year.
Meanwhile, down at Gallatin, Tennessee, Jase Mizell continues to light it up for Volunteer State.
Mizell had a big week last week and pushed his team-leading home run total to 15 dingers for the year. In the Pioneers’ last five games, Mizell homered four times.
