Shawnee Community College basketball coach John Sparks and the Saints team welcomed 23 participants to this year’s Fun-Da-Mental Basketball Camp.

ULLIN — More than 23 area youth participated in the 2021 Fun-Da-Mental Basketball Camp held June 14-16 at Shawnee Community College, and according to SCC athletic director John Sparks, it was one of the best camps ever.

“These students have been through a lot in the past year, and as a community, I think we all worked really hard to keep them safe during this pandemic,” he said. “We were glad to be a part of the reintroduction to opportunities for peer interaction for these kids.”

This year’s camp allowed for a reduced number of youth participants to ensure their safety remained a top priority, but did not diminish the fun they had.

Members of the Saints basketball team assisted Sparks throughout the camp, where the students were coached through fundamental skill drills and competitive games. The three-day camp culminated with family and friends attending an awards presentation on Wednesday.

SCC Summer Camps are going on now through July 12 with various options. For more information or to register for the Saints’ Kids 2021 Summer Camps and Activities, contact Stacy Simpson at 618-634-3375 or by email at
