After the disappointing loss to Vienna in the City of Metropolis tournament finale and the blowout loss to Breckinridge County at the McCracken Shootout, Massac’s Lady Patriots righted the ship last week with conference wins over Herrin and Harrisburg on Tuesday, Dec. 14, and Thursday, Dec. 16, and a non-conference win over Anna-Jonesboro on Saturday, Dec. 18.

The Thursday night affair with Harrisburg got out of hand quickly as the Lady Patriots piled up 70 points and held the 1-8 Lady Bulldogs to 47.

Saturday’s home game with Anna-Jonesboro was decidedly different as neither team could find their offensive groove, and Massac shut down the Lady Wildcats offense, holding them to 30 points. Massac wasn’t much more prolific as the girls put up only 39 markers, but like I’ve heard said before, “It ain’t about pretty, it’s about numbers,” and 39 trumps 30 every time.

Tuesday night, Dec. 20, had the ladies on the road to Benton for an always tough matchup with the Lady Rangerettes. This one was no different as the home team prevailed over Massac 41-23.

The girls’ record now stands at 9-6 with their next game coming up after the turn of the year. The ladies will kick off 2022 with a reprise of the City of Metropolis Tournament title game, tangling with the Lady Eagles of Vienna on Monday, Jan. 3.
