The Lady Patriots golf team got in their final tune-ups for Thursday's Class 1A regional at Franklin County Country Club.
The girls played in Edwardsville last week in the Gary Bair Invitational. Bair was the head coach at Edwardsville until an untimely death at the age of 60. He led the Tigers to their only state title in 2004 and was held in the highest regard by all who knew him. He died in 2006 in Arizona after a long, hard battle with cancer.
The Bair "Invite" consists of mostly larger Metro East schools, but the name Massac on the shirts carries some heavy weight up there.
O'Fallon took the title but Massac grabbed second, to the surprise of no one. Madie Coakley was the overall medalist with a 72. Conkle and Korte continued their play with an 80 and 81 respectively. Frazine shot 91 and Delaney Williams and Gracie Stewart shot 102 and 116.
Tuesday saw the girls at Anna, and they pretty much demolished the Lady Wildcats 159 to 216. Korte led the way this time with a 38 for the nine holes. Conkle had a 39, Coakley had a 40 and Frazine added a 40. Being the last tune-up, the girls took a nine player team. Delaney Williams shot 44, Stewart shot a nice 43, Josie Walker shot 51, Izzy Hawes shot 56 and Delaney Troutman shot a 58.
The girls look to be ready for Thursday's encounter on the immaculate West Frankfort track.
