Massac County’s Lady Patriots soccer team was ousted 3-0 from the Murphysboro regional on Wednesday, May 10, by a tough Waterloo Gibault team.
Massac’s goalkeeper Azerette Mendoza was as busy as a one-eyed cat in a fish market as Waterloo kept the ball in Massac’s end of the pitch forever. If I had to guess, Mendoza had 18 saves in addition to surrendering the three goals.
For the offensive inadequacies, the defense for Massac was really good in holding Waterloo to just three scores.
The Lady Patriots ended up their season with a record of 6-11-2.
Playing in the tough Metro-East area, Gibault ended up 9-11-1 as Murphysboro ended its season with a 2-0 shutout.
Belleville Althoff Catholic likewise ended Murphysboro’s season with a 2-0 shutout Tuesday, May 16, in the Columbia sectional semifinal.
