Like their Massac County counterparts, the Lady Patriots soccer team is knee deep in their conference schedule and also facing “spring break” personnel issues this week.
Following losses to a tough Carterville team, 1-0 on April 4, and a very tough Murphysboro bunch, 5-0 on April 6, the Lady Patriots took on Anna-Jonesboro-Cobden on Tuesday afternoon, April 11, and the offensive drought continued as the Lady Wildcats prevailed 3-0.
Against Carterville, the name of the game for both teams was defense.
Murphysboro kept the ball on their offensive end of the pitch for most all of the game and limited Massac to just a couple of legitimate shots on goal.
While we don’t have the details of Tuesday’s game, the 3-0 loss suggests another offensive shortfall.
While the offense has been scarce, the Lady Patriots are playing at a fairly high level on defense and, hopefully, it’s just a matter of time before the offense comes around. This is, after all, a very young team.
The loss runs the Lady Patriots’ record to 5-7-1 as they go into this play this weekend in the Fralish Cup tournament at Carbondale.
