The Lady Patriots softball team was in need of a win at Vienna on Tuesday, March 28. In a sense, they got one.
Despite losing a tough 2-1 game to the Lady Eagles, Massac played a clean game and got a fine pitching performance from freshman Sydney Foster.
Over their last three games, the Lady Patriots had been outscored 24-8 and only the 4-3 loss to Ballard Memorial was close.
On Tuesday, Riley Baumgarte staked the Lady Patriots to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning with a booming home run only to have Vienna’s Emmy Vinson follow in the fifth inning with a two-run bomb of her own.
Ayva Rush singled in front of Vinson’s shot to reclaim the lead for Vienna. Vinson was also the winning pitcher.
Again, it was a loss, and a tough one to swallow, but the Lady Patriots played a really solid game, and it could have gone either way.
The Lady Patriots are back in action today, Thursday, March 30, against Anna-Jonesboro followed by a Friday game with Hardin County.
The Lady Patriots’ record slides to 1-5.
