Members of the Massac Junior High Lady Trojan basketball team are all smiles after winning the Class L regional game Saturday night.

Massac County Junior High School's Lady Trojans have reached the "promised land" again. The girls breezed through the Class L regionals last week and will begin play at Rend Lake Saturday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. against the Region 5 champion. Mascoutah and Whiteside Elementary of Belleville played Tuesday evening to decide the Region 5 title with Mascoutah coming out on top.

The 'Elite Eight' at Rend Lake consist of Carterville, Centralia, Fulton, Hamilton County, Mascoutah, Massac County, Olney-Richland County and Waterloo. To get there the girls beat up on Central Junior High of West Frankfort 58-11 and Harrisburg 53-23.

Century Junior High's girls have also had a great year and played Tuesday evening against Cairo for the Region 1 Class S title. The game was a tight one with the Lady Centurions coming out on top 42-39. Century will now advance to the Class S play-offs this Saturday at Rend Lake also.

The Lady 'C's will take on Jasper-Geff from Fairfield in the 5 p.m. game. Jasper-Geff has the best nickname in the entire tournament hands down. Jasper-Geff are known as the Polecats [boys] and Lady Polecats. No kiddin'!
