Marion brought a strong contingent to the Patriot Invitational cross country meet last Thursday and, when the last runners had crossed the finish line, the Wildcats had roared to first place finishes for both boys and girls teams.

Meanwhile the Massac County team was beset by injury and absence. Only two boys ran for Massac, Evan Allbritten and Andrew Brookshier, and while Ansley Bailey ran away with the girls race with a time of 18:54, the girls finished fourth behind Marion, Herrin and West Frankfort.

Marion's male harriers ran a strong, strategic race beating out Vienna, who showed themselves quite well for one of the smaller schools in the meet. Herrin's Tigers ran third.

Marion was led by Benja Stone who posted a fine time of 16:34 to lead the Wildcats.
