After a solid warm-up for the post-season in the Fairfield Invitational, where they finished third in the gold division, Massac County's volleyball team kicked off regionals up at McCleansboro in the Hamilton County Class 2A regional Tuesday night.
At Fairfield, the girls knocked off Casey-Westfield in straight sets, won a tough two set match over Salem, went to three sets before subduing Carmi-White County, lost a tough one to a really good Pinckneyville team and beat Woodlawn to notch the third place finish in the 16 team field.
Jessie Lewis and Sydney Wilke were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Tuesday night saw the girls sputter a little in the first set before grinding out a 25-15 win. The second set saw the girls sputter a lot as Harrisburg took the 25-22 decision.
In the rubber match, Harrisburg took a 2-0 lead and Massac looked a little discombobulated. But an 18-7 run took care of that, and the girls kind of coasted home for a 25-16 win.
The regional title will be decided Thursday night when Massac County takes on Mt. Carmel who took down the host team Hamilton County in an exciting three set match.
