It doesn't seem like that long ago, but I guess it is when I look at my own kids.

Destiny Mitchell, daughter of Patrick and Marla Mitchell who rewrote the record books for Massac County girls basketball back in 2004-08, will be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame (HOF) on May 4.

When I said the record books, try for boys and girls. The list of accomplishments for Mitchell, now Destiny Hunt of Knoxville, Tennessee, is long and impressive.

The thing that struck me most on her resume was the number of wins. While playing on four regional winning teams, three sectional winners and one super-sectional winner her Lady Patriots won 103 games. That tells the story: she was a phenomenal player who made the team around her better.

Joining Mitchell in the HOF enshrinement will be a few other notables. Tyrone Nesby from Cairo and Jackie-Joyner Kersee from St. Louis are among the inductees for 2019.

Also named this year is Dustin Turner from Golconda, a graduate of Pope County High.

Congratulations to all.
