Massac County bowling Coach Jason Steele lost about 60 percent of last year's team to graduation as seniors Dakota Ball, Jon Frigo and Izayah Thurman moved on.

Ball is playing golf for Rend Lake College, and Frigo and Thurman are enrolled at Southeastern College at Harrisburg and currently bowl for Coach Doug Cottom in the Falcons' bowling program.

Steele has almost 20 boys out for the 2019-20 campaign, and the cupboard certainly isn't bare. Steele has returning veterans Dalton Holt, Ethan King, Aaron Melcher, Justin Mitchell, Bruce Neill and Micah Troutt.Steele also alluded to Stephen Waggoner, Hayden Lloyd and Matt Mizell as "possibles" on the varsity starting lineup.

As always, the schedule has been a little off kilter ,and the boys have seen limited competition so far. They got a win last week against Carterville and another against Eldorado and are slated to get back after it the week after Thanksgiving. With the Massac program being relatively new, lack of interest hasn't interfered with Steele's endeavors yet. But Marion apparently dropped their boys program for this season and numbers are reportedly down around the area.

With a terrific venue for the kids, I hope Massac County can continue to grow and improve.
