The Patriots got two more wins last week as they improved to 21-5 for the year.

The boys weren't particularly sharp at Harrisburg Friday night as the winless [conference] Bulldogs extended them to overtime before Massac pulled away for the 67-58 win.

Saturday's game at home against Carterville was another hard fought game that was close from beginning to end. Massac's six point lead [16-10] at the first horn was their biggest of the day until they took brief eight point leads late in the third quarter, and another late in the final quarter.

At the half the score stood 27-23, and after three quarters it was still just a four point lead at 39-35. Big buckets from Jase Mizell, Tragen Keyes and JJ Sweatt propelled a late game run before a big Carterville trey cut the lead to 55-52 with 1:46 to go.

But Carterville didn't score again, and down the stretch Massac hit four of six free throws to ice the game at 59-52. Massac got double figure scoring from Mizell and Russell and got balanced support from Keyes, Sweatt and Zach Travis.

The boys are back at it on Valentine's Day as they host the Herrin Tigers in a key conference showdown.
