Goreville ended Century's volleyball season last Wednesday as they hosted the IHSA Class A regional. The short-handed "Lady C's" took the first set by a score of 25-18 before stumbling badly in the second set losing 25-9. The third set was tight all the way with the teams being tied at 11. Goreville ran off five straight points to take a 16-11 lead. Century cut it back to a three point deficit at 15-18 before Goreville ran off four straight again taking a 22-15 lead. The teams split the last six points for a 25-18 final with Goreville advancing on to meet Carrier Mills for the regional championship. Goreville took a hotly contested, three set match in the finals against the Wildcats before being eliminated by Woodlawn in the Crab Orchard Sectional semi-final.

Nothing to do with prep sports, but have you ever seen such a World Series. "Seriesously?" I'll take the pundits' word for it when they say that there has never been a championship series like it. The visiting team won every game. The games were mostly exciting, and overall it was a very good Series and before it was over, I was kinda rooting for Washington. As always the managers got in their own way with their pitching staffs, but I guess that's the way of the world now. Finally, Washington relief pitcher Sean Doolittle had to go and throw cold water on things as he sat out the customary, congratulatory trip to the White House because of his dislike for Trump. Really, can't we leave politics out of sports for just a couple of hours? It looked to me like you missed a pretty good time, old buddy.
