In a Class A, Elite Eight rematch from a couple of years ago, Goreville defeated Moweaqua A&M 71-64 to make it to the Final Four. The Blackcats will meet Roanoke-Benson [just northeast of Peoria] Friday night in the state semis.

Goreville had four players in double figure scoring with a couple of them coming off the bench to wear down Moweaqua. Goreville got a boost from Cameron Hines who was just declared eligible again last week with 10 points off the bench. Goreville’s bench play was probably the deciding factor in the game.

In the other Class A semi, Madison and Aurora Christian will meet up. In class AA, Breese Mater-Dei threw a wet blanket over Murphysboro’s offense and handed the Red Devils a 46-26 loss.Breese will meet up with Chicago Orr in one of Friday’s semi final games and Elmhurst [Timothy Christian] will tangle with Springfield [Sacred Heart-Griffin] in the other semi.

In sectional semis in Class AAA, East St. Louis overran Marion 70-53 at Mt. Vernon. Carbondale met up with Chatham [Glenwood] Wednesday night in the other Mt. Vernon semifinal game.
