In Class A girls’ action, Christopher beat highly regarded Edwards County 58-43 behind Amiah Hargrove’s 30 points.
Christopher advanced to the Elite Eight game on Monday, Feb. 27, against Neoga, and the march towards Redbird Arena in Normal rumbled on as Hargrove again drove her teammates to a win. Hargrove poured in 36 in the 50-45 win.
The Lady Bearcats will face Champaign St. Thomas More in Game 2 of the final four set today, Thursday, March 2.
Game 1 will feature Galena taking on No. 1-ranked Okawville at 10 a.m.
Okawville whipped Havana 58-45 in super-sectional action Monday night, Feb. 27.
The title was Christopher’s first-ever sectional title, not to mention their first ever trip to state.
In Class AA girls play, Breese Matre Dei, which vanquished Massac County in sectional play, took on Paris in the Salem super-sectional Monday night, Feb. 27, and came out on top 35-26.
The Lady Knights now face the unenviable task of taking on the state’s No. 1 Quincy Notre Dame in Game 2 of the Class 2A State semi-finals this afternoon, Thursday, March 2.
Byron and Chicago’s Noble/Butler face off in the first semi-final game at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
In boys’ Class A play, Meridian and Gallatin County were still alive in sectional play as the Bobcats took on Wayne City and Gallatin played Bluford (Webber).
