Shawnee Community College (SCC) Athletic Director John Sparks announced that Massac County High School basketball standout, Isaiah Thompson, has committed to the University of the Cumberlands where he will continue his athletic and academic career.

Thompson, who was recently named to the 2020 All-Conference and 2020 All-Region Team, was recruited by Sparks after a stellar high school career with the Massac County Patriots. “Isaiah is the kind of young man every coach wants to have on his team. He is a solid, consistent player who works hard on and off the court. We were confident when we recruited him, that he would continue to the next level after completing at Shawnee College,” said Thompson.

As a Saint, Thompson averaged 10 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He shot 64% from the field, ranking 31st in the nation.

Thompson said of his time at SCC, “I am grateful for the opportunity to play for SCC. My time here as a Saint provided me with both classroom and athletic preparation that helped me continue my athletic goals. I’m glad I chose Shawnee and appreciate that Coach Sparks’ assistance helped me grow as a player and how much he helped to find the right fit for me as I continue pursuing my athletic goals.”

Thompson will begin attending the University of the Cumberlands in the fall.
