For the third year, Southern Illinois Healthcare and the Southern Illinois Miners baseball team are honoring outstanding high school athletic coaches. During home stands, Tuesday night is their "Hall of Fame" night for the coaches.

This past Tuesday evening Rent One Park was the scene for Massac County's Joe Hosman's fete. Coach Hosman was asked to throw out the first pitch, was featured on the big board with stills and a video of himself in action and was surrounded by his family.

Hosman's family is no insignificant number by themselves. Hosman was also presented with a commemorative bat in an on-field ceremony in the second inning. Hosman's grandson Gabe did the honors usually reserved for the home plate ump when he gave the "play ball" order.

'Coach' was also featured in the Miners pregame interview and expressed his gratitude for the night. He also gave a lot of credit to coaches in his past that had helped him along and to the staff at MCHS now.

"Heck, most of them played for me. And now a few of them are my bosses!" Hosman also had some heart-felt words for wife Joanie. "My wife and my family, that's what it's all about. I've been very blessed and as far as the numbers (coaching wins) go, that just shows I've been coaching a long time."
