The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) baseball and softball playoffs are nearing their final stages and things look like this for southern Illinois.

In class A baseball, surprising Steeleville will face off against Waterloo-Gibault in the class A state semis this Friday at Dozer Park in Peoria.

In class 2A state semis, Teutopolis will square off with Rock Island-Alleman in the Friday nightcap at Dozer Park.

3A playoffs aren't as far along as Marion and Waterloo and Highland and Carbondale will decide the Salem sectional with the championship game on Saturday.

On the ladies' side, Class 1A softball looks like this: Goreville will take on Hardin [Calhoun] in one of the state semis at the East Side Centre in Peoria Friday at 12:30 p.m.

Class 2A has Pinckneyville will take on Stanford [Olympia] in the 5:30 p.m. nightcap at the East Side Centre.

Class 3A has Carbondale and Freeburg to be decided with Centralia beating Jerseyville 10-0 on Tuesday in the Carterville sectional.

The "deep south" looks to be represented pretty well again.
