Raegan Hannan, Century softball coach, faces some down numbers this year as well. Hannan starts the year with 11 players and played her first game with just 10.
The good news is that almost everyone returns from last year and that first game was a 'W.'
Hannan has a couple of girls who can pitch and a couple that can catch and that is always a big plus. Carli Juncker and JaBre Solomon have experience in the circle, and Kylee VanMeter acquitted herself well behind the plate in Century's first game.
Jayden Wood is back from a broken leg that ended her year last spring and will probably man the shortstop position. Haley Pittman, Cassidy Halvorsen and Sidney Gotway will fill the rest of the infield slots, and Hannan hopes to fill the outfield slots with Sydney Blevins, Umarrah Winfield, Shaelea Morris and Laney Dillow.
Just judging by the opener against Dongola, which hit the ball well through most of its lineup, Hannan's biggest challenge will be defending the outfield.
Infield play was pretty solid, and Century made good contact all day against Dongola's pitching.
Now if the weather will only cooperate.
