Massac County’s golfers had a mixed bag of results from last week as the boys managed to get in a few holes at “The Battle of Rend Lake” on Saturday before the event was washed out.

The girls made the trek to Nashville last Thursday, Aug. 19, and made the bus ride count as they smoked the field to take first place.

The Lady Patriots shot a 160 for the nine-hole affair to best second-place Nashville by 32 strokes and third-place O’Fallon by a whopping 50 strokes.

In traditional Massac County fashion, all six players broke 50 while the average score for the field came in around 55-60.

Sophomore Elise Coakley and junior Josie Walker both shot 38s, with Coakley taking medalist honors on a score card countback.

The team also recorded a pair of 42s for Izzy Hawes and Olivia Heine. Katie Frazine came in at 46 and Delaney Williams shot a 48. Massac County accounted for four of the top five scores.

The Lady Patriots were in action Tuesday. Aug. 24, at the O’Fallon Far Oaks Tournament.

The Patriots are at Herrin today, Thursday, Aug. 26.

Both teams will be at home Saturday, Aug. 28, as they host the Patriot Invitational.
