The Superman Road Race, a four-mile jaunt through the streets of Metropolis, has become a traditional event of the Superman Celebration, with this year marking its 30th race anniversary.
The event will include a two-mile non-competitive walk.
The race takes off at the big pavilion, located at the Seventh Street entrance at Fort Massac State Park, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 6. Aid stations are provided. Organizers encourage residents along the Third Street route and in the park to cheer on runners. Volunteers are also welcome to help with the race.
Race day registration is from 5:30-6:45 p.m. at the pavilion. The fee is $20 for pre-entry and $25 day of race. Participants will receive a free T-shirt while supplies last.
Door prizes will be awarded.
Those who are pre-registered can pick up their packets at the registration area beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the run age group divisions. There will be no awards for walkers.
The race is a USA Track and Field Sanctioned Event.
For more information on pre-registration or to volunteer, individuals can call the race hotline at 618-645-4242 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
